The Daily Teddy 1/28

Teddy loved watching Grandma Jane perform the Eensy Weensy Spider.
Thanks so much for your visit, Grandpa Henry and Grandma Jane. We’ll miss you!
We are excited for Daddy/Dave to return home to us today!

Grandma Jane and Grandpa Henry Visit 8-Week-Old Teddy

This photo shows the adoring grandparents and Teddy at one week old. We’re thrilled that they’re back in Seattle!

While Dave is traveling for work, my parents are here from Kansas City to be with Teddy and me. Teddy’s having such a good time with his Grandma Jane and Grandpa Henry, and I am loving our time together, too!

Teddy snoozed through the walk and his first Alexander Calder.

Banana Bread = Happy Associations

Dave’s brother and his wife babysat Teddy on Saturday so that we could dash out for a dinner date. (Thank you!) As we drove, I realized that the last time Dave and I were in a car – just us – was on the way to the hospital. As we do several times a week, we got to excitedly talking about our memories of Teddy’s birth. Still awestruck, we mostly talk about how we felt when we saw him for the first time – our glorious little bundle with his big, kissable cheeks. But, today, I was thinking about banana bread and Teddy.

We first went to the hospital at 4 a.m. on November 28, but were told that it would be many more hours and we could return home. Through mild contractions, I slept a little, did some work, baked banana bread, and went out for an early dinner of Neapolitan pizza with Dave and my mom, sister, and mom’s cousin’s daughters plus spouse. My contractions were very intense by 8 p.m., and I decided that I should really try some of the banana bread before going to the hospital. A very good decision! We left for the hospital around 10 p.m. and Teddy was born the following night at 9:58 p.m. I highly recommend this recipe for “jacked-up banana bread” from my favorite cooking website. (I added rum and dates.)

To try to help Teddy’s tummy, I’ve been avoiding dairy for the past few weeks. Today, I made this vegan banana bread.

Both recipes are delicious and mix together with only one bowl.

So, you say you come to this site to see photos of Teddy, rather than to read about recipes? I believe I have two gems for you.

I took this as Dave drove us home from the hospital on December 2. Such sweetness!

This photo shows Teddy’s consistent response to my question this afternoon, “Can you smile for Mama?” We’re having a great week!

The Daily Teddy 1/18

Look at all of Teddy’s new friends!
We joined a wonderful play group/parent education group for families with babies born in November and December. Teddy and I had a blast!
(And, yes, Teddy earned the right to wear the Sleep Thief outfit by soundly sleeping from only 9:30-11 pm the prior night.)

Teddy and the Mobile, Video Version

As you can see, Teddy is pretty smooth with his moves. At some point, we are going to "graduate" him from Baby Bach to Michael Jackson, and I think he might just revolutionize the concept of dancing as we know it.

Teddy meets his cousin and aunt and uncle Min!

This is guest blogger Andrew (Dave's brother). Teddy got to meet his cousin Zach for the first time this weekend. The two of them were pretty darn cute together - Dave has some pictures on his Canon DSLR and should upload them later (nudge nudge). These are a few pix that we got of Teddy with the iPhone. Look at that head control!!

Meals, Zach, and I had such a great time with Teddy (and his mom and dad :-). They were amazing hosts (despite the fact that Dave totally broke the rules about picking up the dinner check by handing over his credit card at the beginning of the meal!). We took long walks by the lake, ate out several times, watched a lot of football, and generally just enjoyed each other's company. Dave and I didn't even get in a fight! And we hope that Zach was a good hyung (translation: elder) and provided a good role model for Teddy :-)

We can't wait to seem them again!

My Sister, My Friend - Anneliese's Visit

Teddy,
Your Auntie Anneliese was at your birth and made a return trip to see you last weekend. We had the BEST time! (always do. somehow, every day together feels like the perfect day.) Your Grandma Jane has said that Anneliese knows me better than I know myself. I can’t tell you how frequently we say the exact same thing simultaneously, or she anticipates what I need and is a step ahead. We’re also never as funny as we are when we’re together, so there’s lots of laughter. She brought much love, help, and joy to our home.

We’re eager to welcome Dave’s brother’s family this weekend! We can't wait to see them and they can’t wait to meet you.

The Daily Teddy 1/10 (6 weeks old!)

Teddy turned 6 weeks old yesterday! Our scale was acting up a bit, so he's either 11.0 pounds or 13.4 pounds or somewhere in between. To celebrate, he and Daddy dressed up in formal wear.

Teddy's Aunt Anneliese is in town, and Teddy's been having a blast! I think Jane will have more photos up later.

The Daily Teddy (1/7)

Some more half-smiles, including in the video. He's a charmer (when he's not gassy)!

Here comes the smile...

Teddy has been giving us lots of half smiles. To our great delight over the past few days, he’s been full out smiling with his entire face. It's really amazing! We haven’t been quick enough to capture a photo yet, but stay tuned.

Some slight-smile photos for now:

The Daily Teddy 1/3

We don't take pictures of Teddy when he's screaming, so we have nothing to post today.

In other news, Teddy was 11.4 pounds yesterday, according to our scale.

A belated happy new year!

Wishing everyone a happy and productive 2011, and hopeful that Teddy and his generation will experience the same peace, prosperity, and freedom from pain, suffering and want that our generation has enjoyed.

Which version do you like best?

Below is the 1960s version of Theodore (pictured with Simon), from the NBC series "The Alvin Show".

Teddy does not think highly of the NFC West

I think this is Troy Smith throwing an INT, fumbling, and/or getting sacked.
