5 p.m. Dinner Is Where It's At

Photo from our sushi dinner on Wednesday. The white dusting in the background is hail. Very unusual for Seattle!

There are many benefits to eating at 5 p.m. As the only customers in the restaurant, the service is outstanding and food comes fast. You can take advantage of happy hour or the full menu. You get home in time to watch Jeopardy, if you so desire. Best of all, it's entirely conducive to an 8 p.m. bedtime (still leaving plenty of time for the full bedtime routine). Join us!

The Cloth Diaper Experiment

Success! Whereas most days bring several outfit changes due to diaper failure, the cloth diapers worked brilliantly! We started with 1-2 pairs of the Fuzzibuns, Bum Genius, and Flip systems to be able to do test runs and pick Teddy's favorite. Let us know if you have advice or a preferred brand.

The Daily Teddy 2/25

One of his favorite places to sleep is in my lap. I try not to move to prolong his rest.
Look at those impossibly large cheeks! It must be the camera angle.

Let's play!

A movement and development specialist led our parent support/play group today. We first played tummy time games and sang with our babies. We then gently swung our little ones in a lycra cloth. They loved it!

Teddy Bears!

You want me to do what, Mom? I'm so embarrassed, but I'll let you have your fun.

Teddy Bear

It will come as no surprise that nicknames for Teddy include “teddy bear” and “little bear.” Also, we can’t resist putting him in teddy bear suits. Head to toe cuteness!

The Daily Teddy - Valentine's Day Edition

Treats for our play group. (I've been looking forward to being a mom.)
Teddy is looking handsome and ready to win some hearts!
A special Valentine for Daddy.

The Daily Teddy 2/11

Our somewhat imprecise digital scale had 10 week old Teddy weighing in at 15.5 pounds earlier this week. He is a huge baby!

As you can see, we've captured the (no longer very elusive) Teddy smile!

The Daily Teddy 2/10

We just returned from a baby massage class, which Teddy loved. The class was a success on many levels. I learned new things that we can incorporate into Teddy's bedtime routine. I hope it's not bad to say that, for perhaps the first time, Teddy was the least disruptive baby in the room. (This was not the case in last week's movie or exercise classes, so it felt pretty luxurious to have the "easy" baby in today's class.)
Dressing Teddy for outings is part of the fun of each day. We hope you're having a terrific day and that your outfit has a special feature, too.

The Daily Teddy 2/8

I can't get enough of his smiles and giggles!

The Daily Teddy 2/6

Teddy's first Super Bowl

The Cleanest Baby on the Block

As part of his bedtime routine, I give Teddy a bath every night. This is followed by lotion, a sleeper and his sleep sack, lots of feeding, and Goodnight Moon. For these efforts, we are then rewarded with 2-3 hours of sleep by Teddy. He looks pretty serious in this photo, but he LOVES bath time 95% of the time (just not being photographed while bathing, apparently).

The somewhat Daily Teddy (2/6)

So Teddy just keeps growing. He had his two month checkup this last week, and he's plugging right along around the 85th percentile for height and weight. Pretty sure he's going to move on down that curve at some point soon (if not, we may need to double check to make sure we got the right baby), but in the meantime, I'm still harboring dreams of him playing left tackle for the Seahawks someday and flying his parents out to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl.

Teddy had his vaccinations as well, and he was a real trooper. A little bit of screaming when he got his shots (and to be fair to him, I scream much more than he does when getting shots, and at a higher pitch), but then he quickly calmed down. Tough little dude.

Jane and I continue to be lucky, insofar as we are constantly immersed in Teddy (and vice versa). While Jane's got a few work items here and there, her employer was kind enough to basically give her the semester off from teaching obligations, so she won't have to actually be on a full work schedule until May or so. And since I work from home, I'm always nearby. It can be sometimes challenging (particularly on conference calls), but so far it's worked out well, due to Jane's pretty amazing patience with Teddy. It's pretty cool that I can essentially pop in and give Teddy a kiss at any point during the day (and with those cheeks, it's frankly very hard to resist!). We realize we're pretty lucky in this regard, and are thankful for our blessings.

Jane's been starting to take Teddy out here and there. She's got a local group of area moms with kids all around the same age as Teddy, which she meets up with once a week. Earlier this week, they all went out to a 10am showing of "The King's Speech", which from Jane's description sounds like it was drowned out by "The Babies' Screaming." And then there's this "Stroller Strides" group, which is a walking and exercising class for new moms.

Anyways, that was your update from the law offices of Bob Loblaw, Attorney at Law. Now onto photos of Teddy!

Worth noting: Teddy has started to smile. A lot. Usually in response to funny faces, which is why I think I get a lot of smiles from him. He's also sticking his tongue out, in response to my doing the same. Earlier this week, when I puffed out my cheeks, he did the same! I've been trying to get him to repeat this little trick, to no avail (I just get a bemused little half smile). But yes, his smile tends to light up our world, although we haven't yet captured a full beaming smile in a photo yet (just the half smiles).

The Daily Teddy 2/1

Amazingly, Teddy seems to have turned the corner this past weekend. He doesn't seem to be excessively gassy or otherwise in physical discomfort, and most importantly, he's sleeping!!! In 4 hour stretches!!! Perhaps not coincidentally, Seattle has turned sunny, bright and temperate. A new dawn has come...

Here he is early this morning. Teddy likes his new swing.

Teddy also likes mirrors!

Daddy was in DC last week

I missed my Teddy. On top of that, got hit by a major snowstorm, for which I did not pack!

But then, while I was out at Granville Moore's on H Street, who did I encounter but CHEF TEDDY!!!

Some random photos from 1/17-1/23

Teddy was not sleeping particularly well the week of 1/17-1/23. Basically, he was up all the time. So we took lots of photos of him in those rare moments when he was sleeping, to remind ourselves that Teddy sleeping was not just a theoretical conclusion, but actually did manifest itself into reality every so often.

Teddy LOVES his mobile...

The first of some very belated posts 1/16-17

I've been pretty derelict in my Teddy chronicling, due in large part to work.

Meant to post these a while back. My brother, his wife and 17 month old came to visit us the weekend of January 16-17 (and were nice enough to babysit for us one night, allowing us to get out for a real adult meal (Joule-- an outstanding Korean/French fusion restaurant here in Seattle)). Here are some photos and videos.

This is Melissa, baby Zach, baby Teddy, and Andrew. As you can see, Zach is being a good older cousin, and is totally fascinated by baby Teddy. Teddy, on the other hand, is focused on maintaining his "Greek statue" pose.

More of the same, in video form. Good recovery by Andrew in preventing Teddy from crying!
